The February Club Meeting (Open to the General Public).
Ladies in the Landscape 1900-1940
Presentation by Jenny Rose Carey (www.jennyrosecarey.com)
Jenny Rose Carey, Senior Director at the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society’s Meadowbrook Farm, will discuss how horticulture changed the lives of women in the early part of the Twentieth Century. Her talk will detail the New Schools of Horticulture for Women, the Garden Club Movement and early garden clubs. She will speak about Beatrix Farrand and Ellen Biddle Shipman, early landscape designers, and will highlight early female gardeners who created beautiful gardens. In addition to breaking barriers so women could get jobs in horticulture, these ladies left a lasting impact on gardens in America.
